Vito oil field in the Gulf of Mexico; Significance of geochemical data to understand reservoir
compartmentalization and filling history

Angel Callejon, Girish Saigal and Anglia Sweet
The Vito oil discovery is located in prolific Miocene play area in the Gulf of Mexico Basin. After the initial discovery well, four appraisal wells were drilled to delineate the field and collect additional geological and fluid data.

Interpreting pressure data may not always be easy in dynamic basins like GOM, and Vito field is one example where pressure data is hard to reconcile with geology.
Based on integration of reservoir geology and geochemical signatures of hydrocarbons our current interpretations indicate that pressure equilibrates relatively faster than fluids. In rather dynamic basins we recognize advantages in emphasizing on fluid geochemistry for better field development strategies for a smart reservoir management
